In 1967, Trinity Graphic was founded in Hull, Yorkshire, England by Robert's father, Keith Smithson, he opened the family business to serve flexographic printers with color separations and printing plates for the packaging industry. Robert began working at the company in 1974 and became an apprentice Flexographic pre-press operator. Growing up through the ranks, it was decided that in 1988, he should spearhead the companies growth across the Atlantic, and that year he formed Trinity Graphic USA, based in Sarasota, FL.
By bringing the European craft approach to the Flexo industry in to the USA, Trinity Graphic was an immediate success. Trinity's technical competence continues to influence the business today, and the most effective sales tool in the bag is the desire that comes from within the company, to help their customers thrive by providing them with the best product, service and partnership in the world.
Robert continues to be very active in industry associations and has served on the judging teams of both the TLMI and FFTA, as well as being one of the inital founders of the FFPA and past president. He is credited with Innovator of the Year for Trinity's photopolymer embossing technology, which is now used all over the world to emboss images more cost effectively on the web presses.
With virtually 40 years in the graphics industry, his everyday role in the company is dedicated to seek out new markets and techologies in the flexo and wide foramate market and keep Trinity Graphic a thriving and entrepreneurial company.
